Currently proposed changes to the north end of the park.

These changes include paving current informal parking areas between the ball fields to create approximately 63 parking spaces. Paving two new parking lots between Pullen Road and Red Diamond/Theater in the Park would provide parking for approximately 45 cars. In addition, a current informal parking area would be paved, resulting in daytime bus parking or evening ball field parking. Seventeen parking spaces would be eliminated in front of the Theater building. Lighting these parking areas and adjoining pedestrian paths is proposed. A drive to provide a separate exit for this end of the park, across from Stinson Drive, would be added. Informal footpaths established over the years would be paved to help control further erosion and compaction of soils. The restrooms located near the ball fields would be renovated to address accessibility and maintenance.
Currently proposed changes to the south end of the park.

Changes include paved walkways between the amusement area, picnic shelters, tennis courts, and the Aquatics Center to improve accessibility. There are now 241 parking spaces in the south end of the park. No additional parking is proposed here, as a cooperative relationship already exists for overflow parking at the Governor Morehead School located across Ashe Avenue. Children's play plaza improvements include repairing the train tunnel, upgrading the concession stand, providing irrigation, drainage, and landscaping, and play apparatus upgrade. Picnic shelters would be repaired or replaced.
